How are LED screens? And is SKPE worse than regular compter use?

bluebay
Hi I'm asking on behalf of a friend: Is an LED TV screen worse than an LCD display? The old TV had LCD, the new one is LED and seems worse. Is this the screen or something else, probably? Some LED light bulbs have been okay for him, some not.
Also is using SKYPE worse for ES than regular computer use? It seems to cause worse symptoms. Do others experience that too?

I think it all depends on the particular brand, model, features, usage, and not necessarily if it's LED or LCD.

That said, LED lighting can be a bit harsh, and may hurt your eyes.  Sometimes using a blue light filter can help with that (either via software, monitor adjustments, or a physical filter in front of the screen).

I'm using a BenQ 28" LED monitor at home, and it's okay for me.  HOWEVER, I do have the blue light adjusted down a bit, it has a flicker free backlight (not all monitors have these), I'm using an analog VGA connection (which I find more tolerable than digital), I have the brightness turned down lower than "normal", and I have the resolution lower than normal.  All of which makes the monitor more tolerable to me, based on past experience.

I second what Marc said about blue light. After getting a newer brighter TV I started having awful headaches, pretty soon I couldn't even use my ipad or old TV either. I bought a pair of $19 blue light blocking glasses (with yellow lenses) on amazon and instantly was better. I can't seem to go without them anymore as screens now really hurt my eyes due to the blue light!

1. Make sure the LED TV is not wireless, Use an RF meter. If it is search for a way to turn the wireless OFF.
2. Try to set brightness to 100%, this should reduce flicker and ELF from the screem (use an ELF meter to see if there is a difference). See video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57VDY1mtWU0
3. Then put RF Blocking film over the screen - http://www.4ehsbyehs.com/rf-protection/LED-LCD-screen-protection-film
Good Luck

I hope this info helps.

There's a connection between blue light and megnetoreception: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptochrome

That could tie in to ES.

The best is an OLED TV.

Read: http://www.biosensor-physik.de/biosensor/led-stress.htm
It is in German, but use Chrome translate into english.

The OLED TVs I've been next to in the store have been terrible.
