Last year, I checked to see what the costs was to get phone service with a land line but could not afford the service. Now, I am ready (financially) to get land line service and last week I waited a couple of hours at the local AT&T store to sign-up. However, AT&T no longer offers land line service to my physical address any more. I get on my computer through their DSL package (non Wi-Fi, of course) too.
My question is, how do the phone companies get away with pulling out phone lines? I thought these lines were subsidized with tax payer money? Where are the regulations?
Any ideas on where or how to find public phones that work?
